Roberto Pinheiro Machado holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Berklee College of Music, USA, and a PhD in Literature from the University of Salamanca, Spain. Besides leading his jazz quartet, Roberto has conducted graduate and postdoctoral research in the Arts and Humanities at institutions such as the University of Massachusetts, Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music, the University of Washington, and the Ecole normale supérieure, in Paris. He is currently Assistant Professor of Japanese Language and Literature at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and is conducting interdisciplinary research on Modernism at Tufts University, USA. After releasing an album featuring jazz standards in 2018, his current musical project focuses on Brazilian jazz.
